Staying committed to our dreams can sometimes be challenging, especially when life's obstacles come our way. But maintaining that commitment, that unwavering dedication to our aspirations, is essential for turning those dreams into reality. In this blog, we explore practical ways to reinforce our commitments and stay true to our dreams.

Understanding the Importance of Commitment

Commitment acts as the glue that connects us to our dreams. It's the force that propels us forward, even in the face of adversity. When we commit to our dreams, we create a promise to ourselves that we won't give up, that we will continue pushing until our dreams come to fruition. I find that commitment works well if I’m working towards something I’m passionate about, so finding my passion is just as important as staying committed.

Revisiting Your 'Why'

Every dream has a 'why', a core reason that sparked the aspiration in the first place. When times get tough, or you feel your commitment waning, go back to your 'why'. Remind yourself of the passion, the desire, the purpose that initiated your journey. This reconnection can reignite your commitment and push you forward. Again, we are coming back to passion as it’s such a great drive for commitment and motivation.

Setting Clear, Attainable Goals

Your dreams might seem far off or abstract, but breaking them down into smaller, attainable goals makes them more tangible and manageable. This process can enhance your commitment because it allows you to see progress and feel a sense of achievement along the way. By taking a big impossible feeling goal and breaking it down into smaller bite-sized pieces all of a sudden something out of reach becomes doable and motivation and commitment increases as a result.

If you’re wanting to use the lunar cycle for setting clear and attainable goals, then the new Moon is the time to do it. As the first phase of the lunar cycle it represents new beginnings and fresh starts.

Embracing a Growth Mindset

Maintaining commitment requires a growth mindset, the belief that our abilities and intelligence can be developed with effort, persistence, and the right strategies. This mindset can help you see challenges as opportunities for growth rather than insurmountable obstacles, reinforcing your commitment to your dreams.

She has written a book called Mindset: The New Psychology of Success. She explains that individuals with a fixed mindset believe that their abilities are static and unchangeable. Building a Support Network

Surrounding yourself with supportive individuals can bolster your commitment. Share your dreams with friends, family, mentors, or like-minded peers who can offer encouragement, feedback, and advice. Their support can give you an extra boost of motivation when you need it.

Something my friend and I do is send little voice notes to each other on WhatsApp most days of the week. We mention the good stuff, the challenging stuff and everything in between. There is a lot to be said for saying things out loud and also having someone see your progress or strife along the way. Each note is only a couple of minutes long but the impact is very powerful.

Practicing Self-Care

Pursuing your dreams can be demanding, both mentally and physically. Therefore, it's crucial to incorporate self-care into your routine. Ensuring you're well-rested, eating healthy, exercising, and taking time for relaxation can rejuvenate you and keep your commitment levels high.

However, have you noticed how, although we all know the importance of self-care it’s still the first thing we abandon when we are busy, stressed out or feeling challenged in some way. I have every intension of using self-care of prevention rather than cure, but quite often I don’t manage this as my brain has been conditioned to push through. This is something I’m currently working on resolving and I am slowly getting better at it. How about you?

Celebrating Milestones

Every step forward, no matter how small, is a victory and should be celebrated. Recognising your progress and rewarding yourself for achievements can strengthen your commitment by providing positive reinforcement and motivation to continue.
